My book reviewed in JMCQ

Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Writing a 500-page fully illustrated book is a lot of work, so forgive me if I bask a bit.
It is clear that the lessons have been well tested on many students because the author seems to know just where people are likely to get stuck. Lots of tips and warnings help readers past the hurdles. [...]

Flash video tutorials

Monday, March 13, 2006

This site has very nice animated tutorials with voiceover instructions: gotoAndLearn.com. The tutes are all in the listbox labeled “Select a tutorial”; the first basic video tute is at the very bottom of the list, so scroll to find it.
The site is from Lee Brimelow. He also has a nice “Basic Flash Preloader” tute here. [...]

‘Slivercasting’ with Web video

What are ‘Rich Internet Applications’?

Friday, March 10, 2006

A student asked me this recently. He had seen the phrase “rich media” in an article and thought the author was trying to coin a new phrase. I’m familiar with the phrase through Macromedia (now part of Adobe), which has long used the term to refer to Flash Web sites that incorporate databases.
This week, a [...]

Where do blogs and ‘citizen journalism’ intersect?

Thursday, March 9, 2006

From an article in AsiaMedia (March 7):
“Blogging is more of an individual process, where you might write about personal issues in your daily life or comment on an issue that is important to you,” said Lam Oi-wan, editor of citizen media site InMediaHK (in Chinese only). “Bloggers don’t normally go out and report something, whereas [...]
