Netvibes on the radar
The International Herald Tribune slung some ink at Netvibes a couple of days ago, a week after the startup got a $15 million cash infusion. IHT reports that the site claims to have 5 million users registered.
I’m always curious about a new site that promises to help me manage news feeds and other information more effectively, but so far, I’m not sold on Netvibes. However, their promise of added localization features will make me keep an eye on them to see what comes next.
Here’s what Netvibes has to say for itself:

Last, and certainly not least, we’re planning on launching local advisory boards that will help us localizing the content — by adding new blogs, news sources, and other local web services to accommodate your tastes.

I’m using Netvibes as my home page now.
I like it in concept a whole lot. It’s a great way to manage how I use the Web.
The only problem — with more than 100 feeds coming in, the page is very, very slow to load initially.

August 28, 2006 at 11:14 pmI use the Google desktop as my home page. I have added my favorite news feeds to it … so I don’t see a big advantage to switching to Netvibes instead. Why did you choose it over Google? I’m curious.
