The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture, by John Battelle
We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People, by Dan Gillmor

“We the Media” is the ur-text. I think a lot of what you want your students to understand will be much easier if they’ve read it.
