Teaching Web standards
For all you journalism educators struggling to keep up with what’s new in technology — if you have not caught up with Web standards, here’s a possible starting place for you: The Web Standards Project formed an Education Task Force in 2005 “to work directly with institutions of higher education to help raise awareness of Web standards and accessibility among instructors, administrators, and Web development teams.”

Yesterday I read an e-mail from a former student (class of 2002) who wrote that my advanced Web production course has proved to be the most valuable in her career — of all the courses she took. The examples she gave were all cases where no one else in the video production company she works for knew how to solve particular problems with online content. My former student is not really a “techie,” but time and time again, she said, she uses the skills she acquired in a serious Web skills class.
