El País gets into the citizen-j game
El País of Madrid — which has one of the best newspaper Web sites in the world — has launched Yo, Periodista (I, Journalist), its own citizen journalism experiment:
Help us build ELPAIS.com. If you have witnessed any news, send it to us, and we will publish it. You can send text, photos, videos or documents to us. Now the readers of ELPAIS.com become journalists. [Translated from the Spanish]

I really like the new website of El País, and I agree with you, it is a great one. But could you expand on your comment “one of the best newspaper Web sites in the world”, why do you think so?
One of the things I like most is the feature that gives you similar news in other newspapers. You get to read about the same topic from totally different perspectives.
April 24, 2007 at 7:47 pmI love the beauty and clarity of their page designs. The use of typography and also the use of white space makes everything so easy to scan and absorb. It never feels too crowded, even though on their front page, they have so many stories and videos, etc. Yet the layout is calm and orderly.
Then also, the breadth of the news, the quality of the reporting, and the new inclusion of video — these also place El País among the best in the world. Their only shortcoming is photojournalism. They seem to see photos as less “serious” and do not use them as much as they should.
