Photojournalism: Benazir Bhutto assassinated

Stunning on-the-scene photos and a voiceover narration by photojournalist John Moore:

The Assassination of Benazir Bhutto (The New York Times)

I will venture to say that this collection of images — an audio slideshow without natural sound — is better than video. I also note the inclusion of several photos that are completely out of focus — pictures you would never see in a newspaper. This is a way of documenting the event and the photographer’s participation in it.

I’ve been searching for citizen-shot video of the explosion and have found none so far.

Naturally, the BBC had an excellent news-plus-background package constructed and online very quickly.

With Pakistan and the world, I mourn the loss of a great leader, a Muslim and a woman.

Update (11:15 a.m.): Al Jazeera English has a good three-minute biography (video): The life and times of Benazir Bhutto.

Lots of sites are using Moore’s photos, but the NYT slideshow remains, in my opinion, the best presentation online.
