Good insight… I will have to take these points and do a once over to see where I can increase the flow of the “package” on the group blog I oversee.

Anyway - found you through your tutorial for Flash MP3 player. Thanks… I’m looking to incorporate that into the site every now and then.

@Nigel: You’re right, the STORY will always be “suitable” for online. The question is, what is the best way to tell it?

Small breaking news bits should be plain text with an excellent headline, and maybe an external link if needed. Many stories don’t require extra graphics or interactivity.

Unfortunately, many of the stories that would benefit greatly from a more online-centered approach do not receive it.

Mindy,

A interesting post and something that I will take great notice as I am currently working on a online assignment.Some of the recurring mistakes are not to do with online but journalism fundementals.

This is where I have problem sometimes with online.

One of the briefs that we are asked when submitting our story ideas is what makes the story suitable for online.Surely the question should be the other way round,how can we enhance the story by putting it in an online format.Which means using tools that are compatable for the medium.

The story is THE story.If it is strong then it will work,the fundementals of journalism should not change
