Two video examples
Today’s AEJMC panel about video storytelling was excellent. Serena Carpenter of Arizona State did a great job of putting together a panel of four very different people — Chris Booker, multimedia producer at the Chicago Tribune; Steve Anderson, broadcast journalism professor at James Mason University; Bonnie Bucqueroux, formerly teaching at Michigan State, now running a site called Sustainable Farmer; and me. I’ll be writing about some things Chris said, later.
For anyone looking for the two examples I showed, they were:
- Las Vegas Sun: Are EPA coal emission standards strict enough? I like this one largely because I’d never seen a video like it before. I especially like the integration of animated Flash graphics to help convey information.
- Kirk Mastin: Flip Video Vlog — A Tale of Two Formats. The video itself provides a clean example of something students could reasonably be expected to produce. The use of the ultra-cheap Flip video camera doubles the value.
The PowerPoint is on Slideshare — Journalistic Video: Two Examples.
