CONSULTING
- Served as facilitator for a two-day roundtable discussion on revising
the curriculum of the School of Communication at Emerson College, Boston,
August 2001.
- Traveled to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand, on a U.S. Speaker and
Specialist Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of State to undertake
a journalism training project, June 2001. With the Public Affairs section
of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, met with journalists from newspapers,
radio and TV and with journalism educators at several universities to
discuss new technologies.
- Gave two separate two-hour presentations on "Writing for Online
Media" to Gannett executive editors, Gannett headquarters, Arlington,
Va. The executive editors from all 99 Gannett newspapers attended, along
with about 40 of their online editors; October and November 2000.
- Advised the Ontario Community Newspapers Association on options for
creating online newspapers; consulted on OCNA Technology Task Force
report; November 1996-January 1997.
- Created site structure and consulted on content, navigation, and
maintenance issues for the Web site of Washington, D.C.-based publisher
Island Press, Fall 1996.
- Created Web site, including all graphics and Perl CGI scripts (including
a player ratings look-up form and an online application form for new
members) for the American Go Association, May 1996; served as Webmaster,
May 1996-April 1997.
- Long-term consulting for FreeLoader Inc. (now defunct): created site
structure; consulted on content and maintenance issues for Web site;
wrote promotional copy; built Web site; trained Webmasters and other
staff on Web site updating, customer service via e-mail, Listservs;
wrote several CGI scripts (including a bug-report form and a user registration
form that added the user to a Listserv mailing list); wrote product
documentation for new software; January-April 1996.
